Quilt Squares from 1st and 2nd Graders

 These Picasso-esque self portraits were made by 1st and 2nd graders on white muslin with thin and thick tipped sharpies. They will be made into a quilt as a thank you gift for one of our amazing community volunteers at Gabriella Charter School. Students first looked at Picasso's portraits of children, and then discussed using unique colors and shapes one their faces. Students did a practices paper sketch in pencil and then with marker to practices coloring in one direction. We moved onto the actual quilt square which took them 4 session, of 45 minute classes to have them finish this project. I promise to post photos of the quilt when it is all sewn together.
