All of my students worked really hard to prepare the food for Winter Ball this year, in January 2012. My three culinary classes made food for 400 people! Everything tasted and looked great. The administrators said that it was the best food that had ever been served at Winter Ball. I couldn't have done it without my students' great cooperation, and dedication. Michelle at Trumpet Vine Catering helped me solidify the menu the students planned, and assured me along the way that we had made enough food. What a great experience!

Students Drawing After Mindfulness Exercise

This was an amazing experience demonstrating the power of mindfulness relaxation practices. I lead my mostly freshman and sophomore basic art class in a 10 minute breathing exercise. This class is generally very well behaved, but I do have a few talkers in it. After the breathing exercise for the rest of the period the students where focused and invested in their art practice. The music you hear is what we were listening to, it was not added afterwords. That's how quite they where being, this was a profound experience for me as a teacher.

Learning How To Mosaic, at Albany High

I learned how to do mosaic instillation with one of my Senior students, from Lisa Solomon.

Each student in the class did a part of the mosaic to form this figure. Several of us put it together on a Saturday afternoon.

Personal Mixed Media Art

These are photos of several pieces I did in a series of 12 large mixed media works, exploring texture, color, and different transferring methods. Looking back on the series I believe now I should have stuck with the abstract work rather than feeling pressured to include literal images of the people I was trying to represent.

Digital Photography Collaboration with Culinary Arts

Here are a few select photos from a project where the digital photography teacher had her students come over and photograph my classes work. It was wonderful for students to be able to share these art forms together, and see how important photography is in the culinary industry, as well as what a great subject matter food can be to shoot. True cross collaboration within a department.

Elementary Students Ceramic Self Portraits

These are ceramic self portraits that were done by elementary school students at Hesperian Elementary School. We took their pieces and had them fired at a Berkeley ceramic studio so kids could keep these pieces forever.

Mural for Boys and Girls Club of San Leandro

My dear friend Caroline Kent and I where commissioned to paint these murals the summer of 2008 for the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club with the young members of this establishment ranging in age from 6 to 15. We had a blast painting with these kids three times a week for two months. It still can be seen when heading north on the BART through San Leandro.

Photoshop Student Graphic Design

This logo was created by a young lady named Carter her Senior year in my 2010 design lab class for a small learning community at Albany High School called Connect Academy. There was a competition that was held to see which student could come up with the strongest logo to be used by the academy. This is the logo that ended up winning.

Calder Mobile Instilation at Albany Middle School

I completed this project in 2009 with a class of 7th graders my first semester of student teaching. These mobiles where inspired by Alexander Calder. Each student created a design within their group of 5. Then the students chose which design to create together. Using foam core, exacto knives, tempera paint, wood dowels, and fishing line my class installed 8 mobiles in the schools atrium and library.
